Following the two-day manhunt for Robert Card, the suspect in the mass shootings that killed 18 people in Lewiston, Maine, the 40-year-old suspect was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot (https://www.cbsnews.com/news/robert-card-found-dead-maine-mass-shooting-suspect-lewiston/)wound near a recycling plant in the Lisbon area, local authorities confirmed. Mike Sauschuck, commissioner of the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a news conference Friday night that the body was located at about 7:45 p.m. local time near the Androscoggin River in Lisbon, a town about eight miles southwest of Lewiston. Card’s vehicle, a white Subaru Outback, had earlier been found abandoned by a boat launch on the river. Earlier, his family shared several details with police about Card’s “acute” mental health episodes over several months leading up to the mass shooting. In an exclusive report, NBC News reported Katie Card, the suspect’s sister-in-law, said that Robert began to hear “horrible” voices talking about him just shortly after he was “fitted for high-powered hearing aids.(https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2023/10/family-maine-shooting-suspect-says-he-started-hear/)” Katie also told the media outlet that he “was picking up voices that he had never heard before. His mind was twisting them around. He was humiliated by the things that he thought were being said.” These, according to her, caused his mental health to deteriorate quickly. Katie said that their family did their best to reassure Card that the comments were not real, including by verifying with some of the people he claimed had made the remarks. But, according to her, “it turned into a manic belief.(https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/lewiston-maine-shooting-robert-card-what-know-rcna122262)” Still, they continuously messaged him to tell him he was loved and that “he needs to do the right thing.” But he didn’t respond. “We don’t know this person. This is not him,” Card’s sister-in-law commented. The deadly rampage began a little before 7 p.m. Wednesday night when police received a 911 call about a shooting at Sparetime Recreation,(http://shootings.news/) a bowling alley in Lewiston. Police later said six men and one woman there died of apparent gunshot wounds. Just over 10 minutes later, at 7:08 p.m., police were called to the scene of another shooting a few miles away, at Schemengees Bar and Grille. Eight people there were killed, police said. Three other people died at area hospitals. According to the medical examiner, the victims ranged in age from 14 to 76, including a bar manager who tried to stop the gunman; a bowling instructor who was teaching kids; a beloved father; a 14-year-old and his dad; and several people taking part in a cornhole tournament for deaf athletes. Maine court records show that a man named Robert Card, who was born on the same date as the suspect, was charged with speeding in 2001 and 2002. No other criminal records were listed in the state’s electronic court records system or in several other public records databases. The University of Maine (https://umaine.edu/)confirmed that he studied engineering there from 2001 to 2004, but did not graduate. As per a bulletin put out by the Maine Information and Analysis Center, Card was a trained firearms instructor. Moreover, an Army spokesperson confirmed Card’s Reserve status, saying that he enlisted in December 2002 and had no combat deployments. Also, law enforcement said Card “recently reported mental health issues to include hearing voices (http://psychiatry.news/)and threats to shoot up the National Guard Base in Saco, ME.” The bulletin added he was reported to have been committed to a mental health facility for two weeks this summer and then released. Card could be a modern-day “Project MK-Ultra” victim “MK-Ultra” was a top-secret Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) project in which the agency conducted hundreds of clandestine experiments, sometimes on unwitting U.S. citizens. A Discovery Channel documentary also showcased interviews with eyewitnesses of some of the “most mysterious and compelling UFO sightings.” The Alaska Triangle is a region in northwest Alaska, and in the past 50 years, more than 20,000 people have vanished in the area. To date, no one knows who or what is behind these cases. Some say the disappearances are due to local predators or the rugged, dangerous terrain. However, legends thrive in Alaska and the ominous history of disappearances in the area has drawn comparisons to another mysterious area: the Bermuda Triangle. Wes Smith, one of the witnesses, explained that the “very strange” triangular objects he saw didn’t move like any known aircraft.
